Earlier this week, I told you how I don't think these charts are totally without value: Since although I think the message sucks—that you should try to burn off the calories you eat—I also think it does a good job of highlighting* how easy it is to consume a lot of calories. For example, if you're a smaller woman in a moderate deficit (i.e., a lot of my clients), and you graze on a few pieces of candy and don't track them: you likely erased your deficit for the day. In case you missed it, here's the original email on the problems with charts like these—but also this valuable reminder. *Intentionally or not. I have another holiday take I want to share. This one is probably even less popular. But despite the fact that my industry makes a huge deal about "surviving" the holidays, and not gaining a bunch of weight: I don't think, in most cases, that the holidays look drastically different than the rest of your year. I help clients navigate challenges like these all 12 months:
Sure, we might see an uptick this month and next. But let's not act like the rest of the year, you get to chill at home with zero stress or challenges. That's why I put together a holiday workshop last year.To highlight this reality—that the holidays aren't that far off from your norm—and to show you how to do more than "survive" the next two months. Like my client Kathleen, who's not only seeing physical changes, but improvements in her health, too: Or Sarah, who couldn't believe how much her photos have changed: If, like Kathleen and Sarah, you also have zero interest in phoning it in until January: I got you covered. Here's the link to last year's workshop on crushing this time of year: It's 100% free, since I want as many people to benefit from it as possible. Will you just do me a favor? Will you let me know if you have any questions at all about navigating this home stretch of the year? I recently had someone remark, on Instagram, on how I always reply to every message I get. But I'll tell you exactly what I told them: there's literally nowhere else I'd rather spend my time. So any questions at all, fire away. Sam |

I don't know about you, but every year around Halloween, I see a lot of posts about charts like these: Or at least the thinking: that if you eat some candy, you need to try to burn it off via exercise. This is really outdated advice that I don't agree with. To echo much of the content about this topic, here's why: It makes the candy less enjoyable, since you're already thinking about having to burn it off You can develop an unhealthy, tit-for-tat relationship with food and exercise It reduces...
Earlier this week, I told you how I don't immediately call "not having time to exercise" an excuse. Because many people, like my new Spanish teacher who inspired that email, seriously overestimate how much time they need to devote to exercise to get results. That's why I prefer to get curious before I throw out the "excuse" label. That's lazy and short-sighted. I also told you how I sent her a free two-day routine that only requires her to train twice a week for 30 minutes. (Want me to send...
After several months of online classes, I went back to an in-person Spanish school last week. The online classes have been great, but I want more practice speaking with other learners around my level. Funny enough... Nobody else came to the class. So it ended up being two hours of conversational practice with my teacher. I did better than I expected to, and we actually had a really fun conversation—at least for me—about fitness and nutrition. My poor teacher (probably) as I babbled about...
